Counting Down to Change

Almost can't believe it. Is this all a dream? As the ticker on the sidebar so clearly illustrates, we're just hours away now.

And despite Matt Drudge's, Sean Hannity's and Rush Limbaugh's best efforts...we've collectively turned away from hate and division and we're *this* close to changing our country. We're on the brink of righting the ship, correcting our mistakes, and transforming this nation once again into a beacon of light and hope for the world.

Can it really be true?

Twenty-one months of a campaign for change. And beyond that, more than that fight of almost two years...eight years of struggling against the darkness.

We've come so far from the felony of Florida 2000. The waters of Katrina, of racism and neglect, have receded and we are rebuilding. The lies and the senseless deaths of Iraq are confronted with the truth of an end. The horror and shame of Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo will be dragged out of the darkness and held up to the light of day. The fiscal irresponsibility and reckless greed of us all, of ALL AMERICANS, will no longer stand. The time of George W. Bush is nearly at an end.

Other than announcing the births of my two children, I cannot recall a sentence that ever felt so good to write. I have to allow myself to believe it, to read it aloud even...The time of George W. Bush is nearly at an end.

We are our brothers' (and our sisters') keepers, we are only as strong as the weakest and the sickest among us. We can and will change this country, and how we care for each other...together. The light is so bright now, it's nearly overwhelming in it's warmth on a crisp November morning.

We've nearly made it. And not only have we survived, we are strong. We stand together on the precipice of restoring not only the dignity of this nation, but of a belief nearly lost around the globe. A belief in the idea of America, this nation that is supposed to be more than the land mass and wealth between our borders. The idea that in this country, anyone from any corner of the Earth can become anything they choose.

Barack Obama, son of a father from Kenya and a mother from Kansas...chose to become President of the United States of America.

I, and my family, choose Barack Obama.

the freedom train is coming, it's time to get your ticket and get on board.
